Taste of Tampa

Last weekend Ike and I traveled down to Florida with his Aunt and Uncle to celebrate his grandmother's 80th birthday! The party was pretty awesome and his grandmother is a feisty little lady who's still going strong. While we were there we explored Tampa a little bit and went down to Ybor City. It's a really neat little neighborhood that was founded by cigar manufacturers in the late 1800's. Thousands of immigrants from Spain, Cuba, and Italy came to call this place home and it is very reminiscent of those cultures today. Here are some pics from our visit (completely image heavy).
We went to a Chicago style hot dog place and they had tofu dogs!!

Ike's uncle (K. Smith) explained to us that while workers rolled cigars all day, they hired readers to read to the them so they wouldn't be bored. I think that's a pretty sweet gig.

These were all over the place in Ybor City.
So sweet :-)

Ike's a goofball.
This was the most awesome door.

Sweet store display

The "Smith Swag" (Ike and K. Smith)

The best part of Ybor? The cigars...
